Call for proposals, XVIII International Triple Helix Conference 2020

Tampere, Finland, 15-17, June 2020

The XVIII Triple Helix Conference 2020 – Future of innovation and innovation for future, will be held in Tampere University, Finland, on 15-17, June.

Tampere University  welcomes you to take part in the conference, which unites scholars, policy makers and practitioners to discuss the future directions of innovation. The 2020 Triple Helix Conference is aimed to evoke both scholarly debates and best practice sharing on how innovation could create a desirable society in the future and how innovation should be understood and approached for achieving such a goal.

The 2020 conference will promote dialogue among researchers, policy-makers and practitioners, who are involved in various aspects of innovation ecosystem for an example with the issues related to knowledge society, social innovation, technology transfer and innovation policy to name a few. While the Triple Helix will be a lens to examine various innovation practices and the future of innovation, we welcome those, who either challenge the Triple Helix model or promote alternative approaches of innovation studies.

We are inviting you to submit your proposals for individual papersposter presentations and panel discussions by 15th December 2019.

Tracks of the Conference:

1. Theoretical foundations and methodological approaches of Triple Helix
2. Concepts and theories to frame the future of innovation
3. Innovation in transnational contexts
4. Innovation for sustainable development goals
5. University reforms for future innovation
6. Governance and public policy in shaping future innovative society
7. Individuals’ role in Triple/Quadruple Helix or future innovation
8. Other topics related to the theme of the Conference

The concept of the Triple Helix of university-industry-government relationships initiated in the 1990s by Etzkowitz and Leydesdorff, analyzes the shift from a predominant  industry-government dyad in Industrial Society to  triadic relationships among university-industry-government in the Knowledge Society.
The Triple Helix thesis is that the potential for innovation and economic development in a Knowledge Society resides in a more prominent role for the university in innovation and entrepreneurship and in the hybridisation of elements of  institutional spheres  and actors, generating new institutional and social formats for the production, transfer and utilization of knowledge.

A growing community of  researchers, practitioners and policy makers carries the Triple Helix project  forward into the 21st century  through the Triple Helix Association, including Helice, the Triple Helix Magazine, and the open access Triple Helix Journal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship  and various global, regional and local cognate organizations, for example, The International Triple Helix Institute, Silicon Valley,  and its Global  Entrepreneurial
University Metrics (GEUM) collaboratory project.
For further information, consult the application guidelines.

Early bird tickets will be available on January, up until 15th April 2020.

Why Triple Helix Governance is useful to dual apprenticeship systems
Author
: Michele Coletti, Grenoble Ecole de Management, France

Abstract: Apprenticeship is a contractual form of work-based learning that has existed for centuries, but despite its historical impact on innovation and competitiveness, it has been perceived as a system for the shop floor or low-skill jobs. The dual apprenticeship system combines school study with training on the job. Well developed in several European countries it can lead to highly qualified jobs, so attracting the interest of universities and other higher education institutions. Academic, business and government stakeholders working together enact a Triple Helix (TH) framework. This article analyses how the TH is suitable for the governance of apprenticeship systems and discusses the implications of the model.

The Chapter kick-off happened in Dortmund on 21st of February during the national meeting of the DenkFabrik – a German ThinkTank Network of Entrepreneurial Universities. During the meeting, it was open the discussion on how could the DenkFabrik members collaborate and synergize with the German Chapter and the THA to foster the national discussions and research initiatives on triple helix interactions and the future of entrepreneurial universities, potentiating its outreach.

All THA members based in Germany are welcome to join the new Chapter and collaborate with its upcoming initiatives. Join now!

Managing Regional Innovation Ecosystems Webinar

 12th December 2017, 6 pm CET Time

This webinar aims to bring two distinctive perspectives from an academic and a policy and practitioner perspective. Both speakers will address issues related to the emergence, development, structuring and management of regional innovation ecosystems (mostly now in a context of smart specialisation), including strategies and challenges for policy and governance. Since we are in a Triple Helix backdrop, the interactions around universities, industry (in the broader possible sense) and government (all types) will be also in focus.
